TÜV Rheinland Provides Exclusive Phase II Testing of Telecom Product Categories as per the TEC under Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) Regulations

IN20_P03_ELCTRCTÜV Rheinland, a global leader in independent technical services, has announced that its product testing laboratories in India have been accredited by the Indian Ministry of Communication’s Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) to conduct testing under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) regulations which includes the additional three product categories under Phase II. The additions include Transmission Terminal Equipment (SDH Equipment, Multiplexing Equipment), PON family of Broadband Equipment (PON ONT, PON ONU, and PON OLT), and Feedback devices.

MTCTE Phase II testing shall be mandatory with effect from 1st October 2020 and is applicable for all original equipment manufacturers (OEM)/Importers/Dealers who sell or import any telecom equipment in India. Testing is to be conducted with a TEC recognized laboratory & the certificate will be issued by Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC).

Commenting on the development, Mr. Thomas Fuhrmann, Managing Director, TÜV Rheinland India said, “MTCTE provides a great opportunity for TÜV Rheinland and we have built up our competencies and infrastructure to support OEMs, designers and manufacturers, and enable them to reduce product developmental cycles and improve speed-to-market. We are proud to be associated with the TEC and to facilitate the implementation of specifications and standards for India’s telecommunication sector.” He added, “Our state-of-the-art laboratories in Bangalore and Gurugram are already designated and accredited by TEC Conformity Assessment Bodies (CAB) and are fully capable of carrying out the tests that are defined by TEC standards for compliant devices as per MTCTE regulations.”

As a technical and regulatory body for telecom products in India, the TEC represents the interests of the Ministry of Communications’ Department of Telecom (DoT). Mr. Raghavendra Kulkarni Assistant General Manager, TÜV Rheinland India said,All telecom products placed in the Indian market have to adhere to the guidelines as specified by TEC in the ‘Essential Requirement’ documents for telecom products. TUV Rheinland is one of the few independent technical service providers to fulfill the majority of technical requirements for testing, certification and registration as per TEC guidelines.” He added, “TÜV Rheinland’s laboratories have the accreditation and cutting-edge equipment necessary to offer testing services in Wireless IoT, EMI/ EMC, Electrical Safety & Reliability prescribed by TEC.”
