How will we live in the year 2030? What challenges can we expect? And what role will the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) play in coping with these challenges? These questions are examined in the recently published yearbook entitled "Global Compact Deutschland", a publication of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest and most important initiative for responsible corporate governance. The yearbook describes possible future scenarios and lets key players from industry, politics, research and civil society have their say.

TÜV Rheinland is represented this time by the study "Digital maturity in small and medium-sized organizations in 2017". The Global Compact regards benchmarking as an important contribution towards coping with one of the biggest challenges of our time for organizations: digital transformation.
TÜV Rheinland Consulting has been helping small and medium-sized organizations to determine their digital status since 2017. The objective is to make small and medium-sized organizations even more aware of the need to focus on the digital transformation. "Digitalization is not an end in itself, it must always reflect sustainable value-added," said Prof. Dr. Kai Höhmann, Managing Director of TÜV Rheinland Consulting GmbH. "This also naturally applies to our own activities. We are delighted that our digitalization reflection has been acknowledged by such a first-class forum as a contribution towards sustainable management."

TÜV Rheinland prepared the study "Digital maturity in small and medium-sized organizations in 2017" together with the research company Lünendonk & Hossenfelder. The study highlights questions which are of strategic importance to several stakeholders: starting with the introduction of the digital basis and optimized processes through to innovative business models.

The portrait of TÜV Rheinland Consulting can be read on Page 100 of the Global Compact yearbook here.

Since 2006, TÜV Rheinland has been committed to the Global Compact, a voluntary business initiative of the United Nations, and its basic principles of respect for human rights, compliance with labor standards, environmental protection and combating of corruption and child labor. By signing the UN Global Compact, organizations undertake to comply with 10 basic principles and promote sustainable development in their own country and throughout the world.

In order to satisfy this obligation throughout the organization, the commitment to the UN Global Compact has also been anchored in the corporate policy of TÜV Rheinland since 2007. The Global Compact Network Germany (DGCN) helps companies and organizations to align strategies and business operations to the Sustainability Goals and the vision of the UN Global Compact.

The yearbook is one of the most important measures in the communication mix of the Global Compact. It is published every twelve months with a total worldwide circulation of 310,000 copies. "Global Compact Deutschland 2017“, for example, portrays 29 German members of the Global Compact. Based on examples of good practice, they describe how they are implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their daily business. The focal points of Global Compact communication are always the ten principles and the key topics of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and prevention of corruption. The long-term objectives of all activities are to initiate change processes in organizations and strategically anchor sustainability along the entire value-added and supply chain.
