TÜV Rheinland Conducts Worldwide Vendor Inspection for a Supergiant Oil Field

Russia‘s second largest oil company was awarded four engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts to start production on one of Iraq’s largest oil fields. For this unique project, the company required comprehensive vendor assessment of the suppliers. That is why they turned to TÜV Rheinland.

Initial Situation and Requirements

In December 2009, a large Russian oil consortium was awarded a contract for the development of the world’s second largest oil field project in southern Iraq with 30 to 40 billion barrels of recoverable reserves. To complete the assignment, the Russian company was to provide engineering and construction of major facilities, including an export pipeline, a tank farm at the Tuba terminal, a gas turbine power plant and a central processing facility.

As an international venture, with many participants and suppliers from France to South Korea, from Turkey to Jordan, this project required a wide range of services to help safeguard a perfectly organised and managed supply chain at every project phase. In order to succeed, the company entrusted TÜV Rheinland as an independent third party to ensure quality and performance throughout the entire engineering, procurement and construction project.
