TÜV Rheinland Appointed as Official Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) for Imported Food Products into Egypt

NFSA - 1TÜV Rheinland is now officially appointed by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) of Egypt to issue the Certificate of Inspection (COI) for imported Food and Food Contact Materials into Egypt. In accordance to Decree No.2 , TÜV Rheinland has been authorized as a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) from January 2021 by NFSA to inspect and certify imported food consignments to ensure adherence to the strictest of Egyptian regulations and standards.

Held at the NFSA HQ in Cairo, the official contract signing ceremony was graced by Dr. Hussein Mansour NFSA’s Chairman and Mr. Moemen Nour El Dien, Managing Director of TÜV Rheinland Egypt, along with management members from both parties.

During the event, Mr. Moemen shared, “We are very pleased to have embarked on this partnership and cooperation with NFSA. All in all, this has allowed us to support the Egyptian authorities’ unwavering efforts to safeguard the food products supply chain to provide assurance for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors, residing in Egypt.

With the Egyptian government (NFSA)’s confidence in our inspection capabilities, our experts will definitely do their utmost to support the authority’s relentless and uncompromised pursuit to provide better food quality”  

NFSA - 3TÜV Rheinland is covering the following regulated products scope under the scheme:

  • Milk and dairy
  • Preserved and dried fruits, oils and fats
  • Sugary confectionery
  • Chocolate and cocoa products
  • Natural, mineral and carbonated water
  • Fruit juices
  • Wheat
  • Food contact materials
  • Rice
  • Sugar
  • Oils
  • Frozen Dough and Cereal
  • Meat
  • Spices

Under the NFSA certification programme, TÜV Rheinland will perform a series of inspection checks ranging from testing, sampling, loading supervision to verification of container sealings in the country of origin for the regulated food products.

“This contract with NFSA has expanded TÜV Rheinland’s Government Inspections and International Trade service’s footprint within the food industry market in Egypt and gives us an excellent opportunity to support the government’s mandate to fulfill both national and international standards regulations.

Apart from enhancing the food control system, the NFSA certification scheme will also quicken the entire custom clearance process for imported foods. Given that the consignments will be verified and certified at the country of origin (i.e. export) based on a robust risk assessment framework, the approval process will be fast tracked as long as they meet the requirements of the COI.” explained Mr. Fares Naouri, Senior Vice President, Government Inspections & International Trade, TÜV Rheinland.
