TÜV Rheinland Launches First Independent Tire Testing Laboratory in Indonesia

In a move aimed at ensuring the quality of tire manufacturing and improving road safety, TÜV Rheinland has opened the first independent tire testing laboratory in Indonesia. Located at in Taman Tekno BSD, South Tangerang, the new 530 sq.m lab is fully certified by the Indonesia National Accreditation Body (KAN) and qualified to test passenger car, truck, bus and motorcycle tires to the latest national and international standards.

The opening comes at a time when Indonesian car sales are predicted to rise by up to ten per cent (y/y) to 1.1 million vehicles in 20161, amid accelerating economic growth in Indonesia. The facility will support the Indonesia Government Ministry of Industry’s goal of boosting industrial competitiveness through increased standardization and the Ministry of Transport’s goal of reducing road accidents to zero by meeting the need for world-class tire testing in the country.

The Tire Testing Laboratory is part of TÜV Rheinland’s global strategy for 2016-2020, under which the Group intends to continue expanding its network in over 69 countries and investing in other potential markets. The goal is to simultaneously support customers and make the TÜV Rheinland brand synonymous with laboratory best practice.

Staffed by an expert team offering tire testing and approval services, the facility has already won clients from across 16 countries and issued nearly 200 SNI Certificates for tires.

“The planning was meticulous, from the selection of the location and equipment to recruiting and training a talented workforce, achieving KAN accreditation and being appointed by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. It has been built on over 140 years of experience in the certification sector, as well as a commitment to constantly improve our quality in order to provide outstanding services to our local and global clients,” said Ralf Scheller, a Member of the Executive Board of Management for TÜV Rheinland AG.

“The opening of the TÜV Rheinland tire testing facility is a reflection of the long-term growth potential of the Indonesian tire market. It will support the industry’s tire quality goals and ensure that specifications meet the standards and regulations set by the Indonesian government. TÜV Rheinland has been active in the Indonesian market since 1980. After establishing its office in Jakarta, in 1996, TÜV Rheinland Indonesia launched a homologation/type approval business for automotive components in 1998 and received accreditation from KAN for SNI product approval (LSPr-026) in 2009. Three years later, TÜV Rheinland Indonesia established an electrical safety lab and a wheel laboratory in 2012.
