DE20_P01_2000802_en_Worldmap-2020.editThe Ministry of Trade in the Republic of Iraq, has implemented the Certificate of Registration (CoR) Scheme for manufacturers and suppliers from exporting countries.

The scheme commenced on 1st October 2020 with a gradual implementation, depending on the product category and in accordance with a specified schedule from which the Certificate of Registration (CoR) for Manufacturers and Suppliers will become a mandatory pre-requisite to obtain the Import License in the Republic of Iraq.

“As one of the top five importers in the Middle East, Iraq is a strategic market and an important destination for exporters in global trade. The Iraqi government introduced the Certificate of Registration scheme to regulate and streamline the import process for all trade parties within and outside the Iraqi market. This mandatory certificate is particularly important for Manufacturers and Suppliers as it is a pre-requisite for importers to obtain the import license and trade in Iraq” said Andreas Höfer, Executive Vice President - Systems, TÜV Rheinland.

As a Certification Body, TÜV Rheinland’s scope will be to carry out the verification process of manufacturers and suppliers exporting to the country, and issue of the Certificate of Registration (CoR).

“TÜV Rheinland’s role being the sole Certification Body for the scheme will be to support the Iraqi government to create a transparent and attractive business environment for all traders keen to have access to the Iraqi market and gain competitive advantage” added Andreas Höfer.

The aim of the CoR scheme is to validate the credibility of manufacturers and suppliers that wish to export goods to the Republic of Iraq before issuing the import license. Ensuring these parties are verified in the country of origin prior to entering the Iraqi market not only promotes governance and safeguards the integrity of the trade environment, it also protects the end consumer whilst minimizing risk for importers and traders.

“As a value-adding service provider, TÜV Rheinland’s role is to ease the compliance process for traders to be aligned with the ever-growing number of mandatory licenses and regulations that many responsible governments are imposing. In Iraq, we help both manufactures and suppliers obtain the Certificate of Registration under the newly introduced scheme to facilitate smooth trade into the country. This promising program will further reinforce sustainably TÜV Rheinland’s portfolio and expand our services offered to the governments” said Fares Naouri, Vice President, Government Inspections and International Trade, TÜV Rheinland.
