Solu-M (Sungho Chun, CEO) announced that it has become the first domestic firm in Korea to obtain a LoRa certification from TÜV Rheinland Korea, the only laboratory enabling LoRaWANTM testing services in Korea.

LoRa (Long Range) is an LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) wireless communication technology that enables low-energy, long-range communication. LoRa Alliance, established in March 2015, is developing the LoRaWanTM protocol technology and standard.

After the first authorization by the LoRa Alliance in July 2016, TÜV Rheinland steadily increased its efforts in supporting the Alliance in their LoRaWAN™ certification program by spreading the knowledge globally. TÜV Rheinland Telecommunication Laboratories in Korea, the US, Japan, and Taiwan have also been designated LoRa certification labs, enabling LoRaWANTM testing services to be provided domestically.

The LoRa certified product by TÜV Rheinland Korea in this instance is model TLT04CS5, a wireless communication module that satisfies the criteria for Class A and Class C of LoRaWANTM protocol which operates across the 863~879MHz ISM Band frequencies in the European Union (EU).

“This is the first LoRa certification in Korea to be provided according to the LoRa Alliance official evaluation process, and it has enabled more ambitious promotions in the European market. It is a significant achievement that will further stimulate the LoRa industry,” reports Solu-M.

“With the development of new technology such as IoT, TÜV Rheinland Korea is continuously widening the scope of tests related to communication devices, and actively investing in the expansion of test facilities. As the only LoRa-approved lab in Korea, we are able to provide superior services domestically and better assist domestic comunication device manufacturers,“ adds WonJung Kim, Telecomm Section Manager at TÜV Rheinland Korea.

Solu-M was founded in September 2015 after separating the power module/tuner/ESL business from Samsung Electro-Mechanics. Deriving its entreprenual spirit from the success-driven DNA of Samsung, Solu-M has transformed into an IoT solution provider by expanding its business into manufacturing finished products compatible with the fourth industrial revolution as well as pre-existing B2B businesses.
