Japanese brands, who enjoy a worldwide reputation for flawless manufacturing quality and efficiency, also appreciate the confidence that independent, third-party testing provides. That includes Jaguar International Corporation, which pioneered the manufacture and sale of sewing machines in Japan in 1949, and is one of the world’s largest producers, with millions of machines in circulation all over the world.

In addition to its headquarters in Osaka, a sales subsidiary in Russia, and a liaison office in Germany, Jaguar has a production facility in Vietnam. When it needed a reliable partner to support its business and ensure the quality and safety of products as well as compliance with customer needs and market requirements, it chose TÜV Rheinland.

As Jaguar’s international inspection, testing and certification service provider, TÜV Rheinland conducts hazardous substances tests, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests and evaluation for sewing machines sold all over the world. With a laboratory located close to Jaguar International’s Hanoi factory, TÜV Rheinland is also helping the manufacturer save time and shipping costs when it comes to testing orders, as well as providing it with quick and easy access to experts.

MEETING STRICT EU REQUIREMENTS FOR HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS

As well as one of Jaguar’s key targets, the EU is also one of the world’s most highly regulated markets. For example, all electrical and electronic products sold anywhere in the EU must comply with stringent RoHS/WEEE regulations. Manufacturers are encouraged to design electronic products with environmental safety, recycling and recovery in mind.

EU markets also require household electrical appliances to comply with the EN 55014-1/-2 and EN 61000-3-2/-3 standards, which cover EMC testing for domestic equipment. Even sewing machines, which contain motors and other electrical components that can cause radio-frequency disturbances, have to be tested.

Jaguar regularly receives requests from OEMs looking for proof of compliance with regulations on environmentally harmful substances and EMC testing. Partnering with TÜV Rheinland has enabled Jaguar to assure customers and regulatory authorities of its commitment and thoroughness – both in investigating substances that impact the environment and conducting EMC compliance evaluations.

KEEPING AHEAD OF REGULATORY CHALLENGES

Market access requirements are now so complex, and change so frequently that most companies don’t have the time or resources to learn what they need to do to meet them. Jaguar was in the same position, until it began working with TÜV Rheinland.

With its fully-equipped testing laboratories, TÜV Rheinland Vietnam provides in-depth evaluation on Jaguar’s sewing machines. This covers everything from hazardous chemicals to EMC compliance. The process enables Jaguar to manage its market access needs more efficiently and, at the same time, improve its products.

“Jaguar can only ship sewing machines that are fully compliant with regulations on environmentally harmful substances, EMC and other key areas. That makes test results essential data for us and an important guarantee for customers doing business in the EU and other highly regulated markets,” said Mr. Nobuyasu Kaneda, Deputy Manager of Quality Department of Jaguar International Corporation Hanoi.

“We are extremely grateful to TÜV Rheinland for helping us raise our knowledge and get ahead of regulatory challenges in extremely competitive markets. The fact that TÜV Rheinland is able to communicate with us in Japanese about complicated issues relating to testing makes all the difference,” said Mr.Kaneda.

In conjunction with TÜV Rheinland, Jaguar has strengthened its environmental conservation activities by procuring components with a lower impact on the environment, manufacturing more environmentally friendly products, and cooperating with business partners to reduce its environmental footprint. In 2009, Jaguar Hanoi implemented an environmental management system and obtained the ISO 14001 certification from TÜV Rheinland Vietnam.
