In the roll out of the IECEx personal competency scheme in Asia Pacific (AP), TÜV Rheinland Singapore has administered the first practical assessment of the scheme in AP. It was conducted by Mr Jumpol Thojun, Manager and Expert for Explosion Protection and quickly supported by Mr Marc Krugmann and Mr Klauspeter Graffi of TÜV Industrie Service GmbH on a very short notice.

COPC demand has surged due to the requirements of many companies requiring not just certified equipment but also competent people as both are contributory to a safe working environment. Companies such as Petronas, TOTAL, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi) have made it mandatory for the scheme.

The assessments were held in Singapore due to the large concentration of O&G training facilities serving the Oil and Gas Industry. Singapore is the world’s largest supplier of Jack Up rigs and Floating Production Supply and Offloading (FPSO) commanding 70% of the market. However the roll out will continue into the Korea and Australia next.
