Location: Movenpick Hotel Istanbul – Turkey
Event Date: 24 September 2019
This conference, co-organized by TÜV Rheinland and Rudolf Duraner, brought together key participants in the textile sector, including environmental managers and ETP operators, to explore creative ideas for preserving our water bodies in a sustainable manner.
Typically, textile finishing operations such as dyeing, washing, printing (also known as wet processing) has been typically associated with
- High water & energy usage
- Large amount of chemicals use
- Polluted wastewater discharge
Clearly, this is detrimental to our environment and not sustainable in the long run.
From the perspective of preserving and conserving our water bodies, it is important for the textile industry to focus on:
- Reducing the amount of water consumed during production
- Eliminating the harmful chemicals used during production
- Eliminating/reducing amount of water being discharged.
- Stablishing effective wastewater treatment prior to discharge
At the end of the symposium, we are glad that our participants
- Overall framework and context of wastewater management
- Relevant industry programmes & initiatives
- Brand/retailer’s expectations
- Sector specific performance and cost benchmarks for management of wastewater and sludge in textile sector
- Concept and steps of operationalizing ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge)
- Sector specific best available techniques (BAT) and approaches
