TÜV Rheinland, a certification body under the International Electrotechnical Commission system for certification to standards relating to explosive atmospheres (IECEx scheme), and a specialized training provider for explosion protection, have recently signed a collaboration agreement to further expand and promote the certification of personnel competencies for experts working in hazardous locations worldwide. TÜV Rheinland is accredited as a recognized training provider (RTP) for the same scheme.

Different regions, one agreement

The international collaborative agreement is valid in several regions, all of them with different visions and approaches in terms of safety – for example in the United States of America, Singapore, India and Myanmar. “Through this cooperation, both of our companies intend to empower today’s industry with high quality personnel education for safety in hazardous sectors and environments as well as to encourage a more effective approach to plant safety” points out Manuel Díez, Global Field Coordinator for Electrical Engineering and Automation.

Dedication to safety in hazardous environments

Both partners have been committed to safety for many years, with a special emphasis on hazardous locations. In such environments, the expertise of designers, constructors, operators and maintenance workers is crucial to ensure the safety of users, the environment and hazardous assets. Important trainings and personnel certification are therefore key components for providing regular updates and state-of-the art skills and expertise in hazardous atmospheres.

The IECEx 05 Scheme defines standards relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres as well as rules and procedures for the certification of competences for personnel working in hazardous environments. The scheme includes 11 units of competences, from basic knowledge to area classification, installation, maintenance and overhaul of explosion-protected equipment, testing and inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres, as well as their design.

TÜV Rheinland is also an NB (Notified Body, acc. to ATEX Scheme), explosion test laboratory and certification body (acc. to IECEx scheme) and is now officially approved by the IECEx Committee as an RTP.
